I’m a Magpie
Moving blogs, it seems, is just as upending as moving houses. Nothing’s where it should be, the walls are all in different places, and my links are still packed away in a box somewhere where I can’t find them. So, while I try to sort all that out, here are some of the blogs I visit regularly: Tom Clark was one of my favorite professors in grad school. Now that he’s blogging, you can enjoy his poetry and musings without all that ’student loan’ nonsense. He also blogs over at Vanitas Magazine. Tricia and I were roomates a few times over in our early twenties. She now lives in Baltimore with her lovely husband Alex (he plays the saw! And other things!), and their adorable children, Georgia and Rainer. I’ve never met CJane or her sister Nie Nie. But I defy you to read either one of their blogs without falling a little bit in love. I started reading Bitch, Ph.D. when I was working on my masters and fancied myself an academic. I keep reading because she’s entertaining, insightful, and keeps me reasonably informed. I’ve loved Alison Bechtel’s cartoons for a long time. I used to read copies ‘Dykes to Watch Out For’ on the sly at the Book Cellar in Cambridge as a young teenager (the word ‘dykes’ was so very scandalous when I was twelve!). And now I read her blog, which keeps me abreast of both her work and the changing seasons in Northern Vermont. And while we’re talking cartoons, you should totally check out Kate Beaton’s Hark a Vagrant. Her silly, history-influenced toons just make me so darn happy it should probably be illegal. But I’m glad it’s not. |
I'm a library assistant, writer, and perpetual graduate student living in San Francisco. Special skills include dog charming, brochure writing, slapdash cooking and long-winded nattering. I also enjoy watching the sunset's reflection in the tall buildings downtown.
For a while there, I taught classes on Classical literature, philosophy, and the history of religion at New College of California. I have an MA and an MFA in Writing, and started library school in the fall of 2009.

I would recommend that if you don’t already know her you should drop everything and immediately get to know NORA who is pretty much my favorite blogger, newfangled classicist, animal person and all round subtle comic genius. (Other than that I like her a lot.)
