Art Zoo! (Gesundheit)

In: Nablopomo, family, open studio

Hangin’ out in Brian’s studio this morning. Some folks are coming by to look at his art, and then we’re going to the zoo. While I’m here, though, how’s about some pictures from Brian’s open studio?

Dreams

In: Nablopomo, dreams

I didn’t sleep well last night. I dreamed I was a child in a city where all the adults had died or gone away. We lived in a railroad-style apartment and had to stay away from the windows so the gangs that roamed the street would think the building was abandoned. Venetian blinds were hung [...]

The #4796th thing I love about our neigborhood are the banners that adorn the light posts on Haight Street. Each lampost has a different one, all painted by local aritsts. What makes it so extra awesome is that our corner is the manatee corner (which, by the way, is reason number #7928 that my lovely [...]

So here it is, November 2nd, and I’m already out o’ things to blog about (I knew I shoulda gone to the Dia de los Muertos Parade). So here’s something pulled randomly from my Flickr account:

Happy November, everyone!
So, new month, new rules. To start with, this is so last month:

Word is, we’re getting paid tomorrow. And the Friday after. And so on, forever and ever, until our great-grandkids finally suck dry the teat of institutional solvency.
Okay, maybe not. But we’re at least getting paid tomorrow, and should be paid [...]

Not Quite Ready for Prime Time

In: Nablopomo

Today was one of those days when I found myself wondering what it might be like to have a child. Such thoughts aren’t rare of course — I’m almost thirty, and Brian’ll be inching into late-thirties territory come May. Some might even say we’re adults (though they wouldn’t say that whilst looking over our finances, [...]

So not cooking dinner right now

In: Nablopomo, cooking

I should be making carrot soup. I found a recipe, I’ve got the ingredients — heck, I have enough carrots to fill a small village with carrot soup, thereby creating an underwater city of in-the-dark-seeing, orange inhabitants (our veggie box has been carrotacular these past few weeks).
But am I cooking? No. I’m eating goldfish and [...]

You know what song makes me angry? That “More Than Words” song by Extreme (do you italicise band names? I’m too lazy to check). I mean, how lame is that song? Ooooh, how do I know if you love me if you won’t have sex with me? Oh, boo hoo, I’m so pensive. Plus, the [...]

Intake

Oh, so many things to take in over the past 24 hours. Last night, my friend Hope took me to see Cat Power at the Fillmore (”to cheer you up,” she said, which makes me wonder how down I’ve seemed lately). Whatever the reeason, I’m glad she persuaded me to go (easy to do: just [...]

One of my favorite poems

Leda and the Swan, by W.B. Yeats
A sudden blow: the great wings beating stillAbove the staggering girl, her thighs caressedBy his dark webs, her nape caught in his bill,He holds her helpless breast upon his breast.
How can those terrified vague fingers pushThe feathered glory from her loosening thighs? How can anybody, laid in that white rush,But [...]

About this blog

I'm a librarian. Special skills include dog charming, brochure writing, slapdash cooking and long-winded nattering. I also enjoy watching the sunset's reflection in the tall buildings downtown.

For a while there, I taught classes on Classical literature, philosophy, and the history of religion at New College of California. I have an MA and an MFA in Writing, and live on a boat in Sausalito, CA.
